BOOKS Plus – bookshops with a difference

BOOKS Plus aims to enhance the caring environment provided by hospitals – for patients, visitors and staff by running attractive, encouraging and caring retail outlets of Christian and general interest books and related material.

The hard issues of life arising from being in hospital can sometimes cause people to question the core of what they believe, and while we don’t claim to have all the answers, we feel sure that some of them can be found among the books available at BOOKS Plus.  Our approach is to let the literature speak for itself.

BOOKS Plus shops are currently located in hospitals in two centres – Cardiff and Gloucester.

Concert

We are celebrating 25 years of serving at the University Hospital of Wales with a series of events and concerts.  Tickets for our Silver Anniversary Classical Music Concert, 5th October at St. Mark’s Gabalfa, are now available online and will also be available via the BOOKS Plus Cardiff shop from Thursday 5th September.  We are asking for a donation of £7.50 per ticket – this will ensure as much of the ticket value as possible goes to BOOKS Plus.  However, any donation large or small will be gratefully accepted.

The programme consists of more intimate pieces of classical music including:

  • Mozart’s Divertimento Nº 3 K.V. 439b for two Clarinets and Bassoon
  • Gilbert Vinter’s Hunter’s Moon , followed by Richard Bissill’s ‘Fat Belly Blues’  both for French Horn
  • Shostakovich’s Waltzes: Waltz Charmaine & Tempo di Waltz for flute and clarinet
  • Gabriel Fauré’s Dolly Suite, Op. 56 for piano 4-hands
  • Swan Hessnessy’s Trio, Op. 54 for two Clarinets and Bassoon
  • Franz Strauss’s Nocturno op 7 for French Horn
  • Mozart’s 4th Horn concerto 3rd movement
  • Germaine Tailleferre’s Arabesque for Clarinet and Piano

Do join us at St. Marks, Gabalfa on 5th October at 7:30pm
